Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva from Gagliole
Olio di Oliva Extra Vergine: cold pressed with love in their own mill
Ten of Gagliole’s 20 hectares of land are located on cypress-lined hills surrounding the winery in Castellina. Here, on specially laid out terraces and in addition to the vines grow numerous olive trees. This cultivation method, which was already common in Tuscany in the Middle Ages, not only looks spectacular, but the arrangement of the terraces and the special location ensure an interplay between sun and shade. And moreover - an ecological balance in the vineyard. The olive varieties Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo grow and thrive here. Only in November are the green fruits carefully harvested by hand and then pressed in their own state-of-the-art mill. The oil is then filtered and bottled. The result is a high quality Olio di Oliva Extra Vergine, which also has a very low fatty acid content - much lower than required by law. Then it should be stored in the dark at a temperature of 10 - 15 degrees C - or actually best enjoyed as soon as possible!
Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina in Chianti: 20 hectares of pleasure in the heart of Chianti Classico
In the heart of the Chianti Classico, surrounded by gentle hills lined with cypress trees, lies the historic Gagliole winery. The vineyard was mentioned in a document as early as 994 A.D., when the son of the Longobard king Berengario gave it to his wife as a wedding present. Since 1990, the estate has been owned by the Swiss Bär-Bettschart family. Initially the vineyards were leased to other wineries. About ten years ago, however, the dream of making wine again on Gagliole became reality. They even went one step further: in 2011, the family estate was expanded with the La Valletta estate in Panzano in Chianti - another winery with around ten hectares of vineyards. Today 20 hectares of vineyards, which are all cultivated sustainably, belong to Antico Podere Gagliole.
Top wines from one of the world’s top wine regions
Today, three generations of the Bär-Bettschart family take part in the events on Gagliole and ensure that products of the highest quality are created under the symbols of compasses and beams. Biancolo and Il Bianco are the two white wines made at Gagliole. The Biancolo is the light-fruity white wine, well chilled a faithful companion through every summer evening. The Il Bianco, a blend made from the Chardonnay, Malvasia and Procanico grape varieties, has a little more substance and strength. And then, of course, there are the excellent red wines: Starting with the Chianti Classico Rubiolo - 90 per cen Sangiovese and 10 more per cent Merlot. The Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is produced half from Sangiovese and half from Merlot grapes. The grapes for Gagliole Toscana IGT - Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon - come from La Valletta in Panzano. The Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is a top red wine that does not need to shy away from international comparison. A pure Sangiovese, for which the "Vinificazione Integrale" is used. And not to forget, of course the extra virgin olive oil that is a must for every meal in Tuscany.
Pure Tuscany: vineyards and luxury bed & breakfast on La Valletta
On La Valletta in the "Conca d’Oro" of Panzano the family Bär-Bettschart has furnished a few years ago a Bed & Breakfast of the luxury class. Everything here is planned and thought out to the last detail for the guests. The aim is to make the stay here an unforgettable experience for everyone. First and foremost the beautiful rooms, the well-kept property and the pool make sure of it! Lined by blooming and fragrant rose bushes and the fantastic view over the Conca d’Oro. By the way from the La Valletta estate you can reach the village centre of Panzano in Chianti with its small, charming restaurants and shops comfortably on foot, by bicycle or by car (approximately 1 km).
Gagliole
Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina: Ein italienisches Stück vom Paradies
