Pure Tuscany
The winery and its agriturismo are located in the heart of Tuscany, surrounded by 120 hectares of vineyards, gardens and olive groves. It is not for nothing that Tuscany is a yearning destination for people from all over the world. It is the perfect place to enjoy life, relax and celebrate. And by the way, Rignana is the ideal starting point to explore Tuscany and its sightseeings. Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Greve – they are all just a stone's throw away.
Sangiovese & friends
The organically certified wines of Cosimo Gericke, the owner of Fattoria di Rignana, are made exclusively from own production grapes. The main production is made from the famous variety of Tuscany the Sangiovese. Nevertheless other grape varieties are also used for the tasty Rignana wines: the autochthonous Canaiolo variety as well as the international grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
The Chianti Classico family
The Chianti Classico and the Chianti Classico Riserva are the two main actors in the Rignana range. Since 2013 a magnificent Chianti Classico Gran Selezione has also been vinified. Typical for the winegrowing region of Chianti Classico and Tuscany. The Rosato is fresh and fruity. The pure Merlot "Il Riccio", a so-called super tuscan, is a faithful companion to achieve a pleasant evening. Rignana also produces extra virgin olive oil, an essential part of every Tuscan meal.
Territory & Quality
Quality is Cosimo Gericke's top priority in every aspect: whether regarding the quality of its vineyards, which occupy in the best locations, or the choice of the ideal clones and the right vine density. At an altitude between 300 and 400 meters above sea level, the vines cover a total area of 14 hectares and grow on a stony, calcareous and clayey soil - the Galestro.
An organic winery in Panzano
The perfect ingredients for a perfect wine. In addition, in recent years the winery has consistently invested in the expansion of the wine cellar and achieved certification as an organic estate. This ensures that the grapes are processed carefully and gently and that, in the end can be produced high-quality wines from the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation.
"Riccio" means hedgehog
The Fattoria e Villa di Rignana has rich history: it was first mentioned in the 11th century. The first evidence of the cultivation of vines dates back to 1700 mentioning Sangiovese and Canaiolo. From the 17th century onwards, the estate became increasingly important due to its owners, the Dè Ricci noble family from Florence. Above all Bishop Scipione Dè Ricci (1741 - 1810) was a leading reformer in the Catholic Church of Italy. However, he had to resign and fled to Rignana. Even back then, the hedgehog was illustrated in the coat of arms of the Dè Ricci noble family - because "Riccio" means hedgehog. That is the reason that the hedgehog can be seen on every label.
