Buongiorno! Today I'm checking in from a super special spot, a gorgeous vineyard that's part of the Podere Capaccia winery. This vineyard actually gets its name from a big oak tree. But Querciagrande isn't just a huge tree; it's also the name of a famous Supertuscan that really made waves in the international wine scene back in the 70s. And not just then!
Alyson, who's in charge of the wines at Podere Capaccia, gives us a closer look at the winery. Podere Capaccia is a small but lovely winery in Radda in Chianti, sitting at an impressive 550 meters high. The buildings of this historic hamlet date back to the year 1200 and have been beautifully restored in recent years. On three hectares, they mainly grow Sangiovese, but also a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
Alyson's own story is just as impressive as the wines. She comes from a small town in Northern California, fell in love with Italy's wine world, and has been living here for over 20 years. Her journey took her from California's famous wineries straight to the heart of Chianti Classico.
