Le Cinciole

The Le Cinciole winery in Panzano in Chianti has a long and rich history. The name 'Le Cinciole' comes from Etruscan-Roman times and means 'Le terre di Quintus,' which translates to 'The Land of Quintus.' This historical heritage is deeply intertwined with the region and reflects a strong connection to the land. Today, the winery is run by Valeria and Luca Orsini, who took it over in the early 1990s. From the start, their goal was to cultivate the land in harmony with nature and preserve the traditions of the Chianti area.

An Early Decision: Organic

When Valeria and Luca took over the winery, it quickly became clear they wanted to do things differently from many of their predecessors. Switching to organic and sustainable farming wasn't just about making better wine; it was also a commitment to the environment and future generations. The vineyards received organic certification back in 2002. Today, the winery spans 30 hectares, with 8 hectares planted with grapevines. At an elevation of 400 to 450 meters above sea level, not only do the vines thrive here, but also 1,000 olive trees across 5 hectares.

Sustainability as a Core Principle

At Le Cinciole, sustainability isn't just a buzzword; it's how they live and work. All the winery's energy needs are met by solar panels that track the sun to ensure they get the most power. You won't find any chemical pesticides at Le Cinciole; instead, they boost the ecological balance by strategically planting beneficial plants between the vines. Winemakers Valeria and Luca also follow a circular economy approach: all organic waste is collected, composted, and returned to the vineyards. This closes the natural cycle and helps improve soil fertility.

The Variety of Le Cinciole

Valeria and Luca craft organic wines of the highest quality at Le Cinciole. Their wines are known for being straightforward and precise, qualities that also describe the winemakers themselves. The winery produces a total of six different wines, each reflecting the unique character of Le Cinciole and the Panzano terroir. The Chianti Classico is the heart of their collection. Then there's the Aluigi, which started as a Riserva and is now a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, plus their top wine Petresco, and the fresh Rosato – all pure Sangiovese wines. The powerful Camalaione and the fruity, fresh Cinciorosso are made from international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. To top it all off, they also offer a fruity, 'green' olive oil, completing their range of products.

Tradition and Tech, Hand in Hand

Le Cinciole does a great job blending old-school winemaking with the latest tech. You can really see this in how they use cool sensors on their vines. These sensors constantly gather info about how the vines and grapes are doing. Special software then crunches all this data, letting the winemakers react instantly to any changes. This helps them cut down even more on pesticides. This tech really helps them take the best care of their vines and get the highest quality grapes, which, of course, means amazing wine!

A Real Role Model

Luca and Valeria Orsini aren't just awesome winemakers in Panzano in Chianti; they're also seen as pioneers in organic winemaking. Their strong commitment to sustainability and being open to new tech has made Le Cinciole a real standout. But they always stick to their core belief: living in harmony with nature while still making top-notch wines that truly show off the region's unique character and traditions. So, Le Cinciole is a perfect example of how tradition and modern winemaking can come together beautifully.
