Le Fonti Panzano

Panzano in Chianti

A Family Business in Chianti Classico

In the heart of Chianti Classico, halfway between Florence and Siena, lies the village of Panzano in Chianti. Here, Vicky Schmitt-Vitali has been running the Fattoria Le Fonti winery for many years, which she took over from her father Konrad.
Le Fonti remains a true family winery to this day, characterized by continuity, personal commitment, and a great deal of passion. Vicky has carefully developed the business and is leading it into the future with a clear vision. She is now also supported in this by her daughter Greta.

In Panzano in Chianti

Fattoria Le Fonti is located in the historic center of Panzano in Chianti, just below the village church. The winery owns a total of around 15 hectares of land, of which around 8.5 hectares are planted with vines. Olive trees grow on the remaining land.
The vineyards are located in the Alta Valle della Greve, at an altitude of around 450 meters. This valley of the Greve River is located on the other side of the famous Conca d'Oro and is one of the most exciting locations around Panzano – with its own unique character and excellent conditions for viticulture.

Cooler Conditions

The Le Fonti vineyards are among the cooler areas of Panzano. This is a great advantage, especially in hot and dry years, as extreme heat can affect grape quality. The more moderate temperatures ensure even ripening and preserve freshness and elegance.
Since the mid-1990s, the vineyards have been gradually replanted, with a clear focus on Sangiovese, the classic grape variety of Chianti Classico. It is complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

"Cool" Wines

Fattoria Le Fonti produces typical, clear wines from the Chianti Classico region. Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva form the core of the range.
Since the 2013 vintage, a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione made from 100% Sangiovese has been added to the portfolio. In addition, Fontissimo is a powerful Supertuscan based on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The range is rounded off by a single-varietal Merlot, the house wine "La Lepre," a fresh Rosato, and a high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

Organic, Naturally!

Sustainability plays a central role for Vicky. Fattoria Le Fonti has been certified organic since 2019. Both the vineyards and the more than 1,500 olive trees are cultivated according to ecological guidelines.
Careful work is also carried out in the cellar, with the clear aim of bringing the origin and quality of the grapes to the glass as unadulterated as possible. For Vicky, one thing is clear: great wines are created in the vineyard—and only a respectful approach to nature ensures quality in the long term.

A Warm Welcome

Vicky originally came to viticulture from another field and hails from Germany. Today, Fattoria Le Fonti is one of Tuscany's renowned wineries, located not far from Greve in Chianti.
Guests are warmly welcomed at the winery. During visits, tours, and tastings, Vicky is happy to take the time to explain the special features of the vineyards, introduce the grape varieties, and invite guests to taste the wines in the atmospheric cellar—in a personal, open manner and without any fuss.
