Fattoria di Rignana

Panzano in Chianti

Fattoria e Villa di Rignana

Rignana is a super charming winery located on the northwestern edge of Panzano in Chianti, right on the border with Barberino Tavarnelle. This idyllic estate is famous not just for its stunning location, but also for its amazing wines. Cosimo Gericke, who owns it now, took over from his dad in the late 90s. His father actually bought the winery back in the late 60s and set the stage for the fantastic wines Rignana is known for today. Cosimo keeps this tradition going with tons of passion and dedication.

Pure Tuscany

Surrounded by 120 hectares of vineyards, gardens, and olive groves, you'll find the winery and its charming agriturismo right in the heart of Tuscany. It's no surprise that Tuscany is a dream spot for people all over the world! It's the perfect place to simply enjoy, relax, and celebrate. Plus, Rignana is super convenient for exploring Tuscany and all its amazing sights. Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Greve – they're all just a hop, skip, and a jump away!

Sangiovese & Friends

Cosimo Gericke, who owns Fattoria di Rignana, makes his organically certified wines exclusively from grapes grown right on his own estate. Mostly, he uses Sangiovese, which is probably Tuscany's most famous grape! But other grape varieties also go into Rignana's delicious wines, like the local Canaiolo grape and the international Cabernet Franc.

The Chianti Classico Family

The Chianti Classico and the Chianti Classico Riserva are the two main stars in Rignana's wine lineup. Since 2013, they've also been making a fantastic Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. It's all super typical for the Chianti Classico wine region and Tuscany. You'll find the Rosato, and even the white wine made from Sangiovese grapes (a Blanc de Noir!), are wonderfully fresh and fruity. Then there's “Il Riccio,” a “Super Tuscan” now made from Cabernet Franc, which is a perfect buddy for winding down a great evening. Oh, and Rignana also makes an amazing Extra Virgin Olive Oil – a must-have for any Tuscan meal!

Terroir & Quality

For Cosimo Gericke, quality is super important in every single way. That means making sure his grapes are top-notch, growing in the best spots, and choosing the perfect vine types and planting them just right. The vines grow on 16 hectares of stony, chalky, and clay-rich soil, known as Galestro, at an altitude of 300 to 400 meters above sea level.

An Organic Winery in Panzano

Rignana's special terroir gives them all the perfect ingredients for making amazing wine. Plus, Cosimo Gericke has been super dedicated over the last few years, investing a lot in expanding the vineyards and the wine cellar, and even getting organic certification! This all means the grapes are handled super gently and carefully, leading to those fantastic, high-quality Chianti Classico DOCG wines.

"Riccio" means hedgehog

The Fattoria e Villa di Rignana has quite a story! This estate was first mentioned way back in the 11th century. We even have records from 1700 showing they were already growing grapevines, including Sangiovese and Canaiolo. From the 17th century onwards, the estate became super important thanks to its owners, the Florentine noble family Dè Ricci. Bishop Scipione Dè Ricci (1741 – 1810) was a particularly influential reformer in Italy's Catholic Church. But, he ended up having to step down and fled to Rignana. Fun fact: the hedgehog was already on the Dè Ricci family's coat of arms back then – because "Riccio" means hedgehog!

Weddings & Honeymoons

Rignana is just perfect for weddings, and here's why: it's got a dream location, a super romantic chapel, and of course, the villa itself with its beautifully restored rooms and a pool that offers incredible views. But honestly, beyond all those great features, it's the unique vibe, the special atmosphere, and that touch of history in the old walls that make your most special day not just beautiful, but absolutely perfect. And if you're not planning a wedding just yet, you can still enjoy an unforgettable vacation in the villa's carefully renovated rooms. It's simply homely, genuine, and authentic – that's Rignana for you.
