From the Piazza to the wine cellars
This special wine festival actually started as a workaround. During the Corona years, the traditional wine festival on the Piazza in Panzano, with its big crowds, was out of the question. So, a brilliant idea came up: Why not open the doors of the wineries and bring visitors directly to where the wine is made? This turned a necessity into a virtue, and now lots of wine lovers are thrilled about it.
The idea is super simple and charming at the same time: Just like usual, you buy your wine glass on the Piazza in Panzano and also get a map with all the participating wineries. With this "passport" in hand, you head off to the winemakers you want to visit.

A young event with tradition
Since the format was so well received, the Panzano Winemakers' Association, the Unione Viticoltori di Panzano, decided to create a second event alongside the traditional September wine festival on the Piazza – right at the start of the season in early May. "Vino al Vino in Cantina" will be happening for the third time in 2025. Even though it's still a pretty new event, it's already secured a firm spot in many wine lovers' calendars.
What makes this wine festival so special isn't just the excellent Chianti Classico that Panzano is famous for. It's the whole experience: May is one of the most beautiful times of year in Tuscany. Nature wakes up, everything sprouts and turns green, and countless wildflowers transform the landscape into a colorful painting. The drive from one winery to another becomes a little journey of discovery through one of Italy's most picturesque areas.
