Panzano Arte: a path with sculptures by Nathalie Decoster through the vineyards of Panzano
Summer, as we all know, is for enjoying the good things in life! And what's better than art and wine together! That's precisely why, for the first time ever, sculptures by the famous French artist Nathalie Decoster are being shown in and around Panzano in Chianti until September 18, 2019, as part of 'Panzano Arte'. And not in a museum or gallery, but along a "trail," a path through the vineyards among vines and grapes, where sculpture and nature form a harmonious whole...
Wineries and vineyards setting the scene for sculptures
You'll find 25 sculptures and three big photos by the French artist, famous for her amazing flowing hair, along an 'art trail'. This trail winds through Panzano in Chianti's public squares, across the rolling hills of Chianti Classico, past wineries, and right through the vineyards.
The four wineries – Fontodi, Renzo Marinai, Tenuta Casanuove, and La Massa – are all part of this cool art project. You can grab a glass of Chianti Classico at any of these spots and just soak in how the shapes, colors, sculptures, and nature all blend together. Then, when you're ready, head off to discover the next artistic treat!
And these artworks are totally perfect for that – they have names like 'Dans la Lune,' which means your mind is somewhere else entirely, way up on the moon, or 'Le Temps qui passe' (that's the cover image), which translates to 'time passing.' Oh, and you can grab a map showing where all the sculptures are, plus more details about the pieces, the artist, and the wineries involved, at the little Panzano Arte office right next to Enoteca Il Cardo, just a short walk from Panzano's main piazza.
Nathalie Decoster: Sculptures of Figure and Form
Artist Nathalie Decoster is super famous for her big bronze sculptures, which often show figures interacting with geometric shapes. The main idea behind her work – and you can see it in the names of the pieces shown in Panzano – is all about people and how we connect with time and nature.
Considering how delicate and fleeting nature is, and how sensitively these sculptures are placed within it, you could say the Panzano Arte exhibition is really inviting us to think about how precious time is. And even if it doesn't seem obvious at first, especially in a wine region where the changing seasons and plants are so important, the themes of time and how things pass are just perfect for an art project like this. The sculptures, hand-picked by curator Mila Sturm, will be on display at the wineries and along the art trail until September 18, 2019.
Dario Cecchini: Passionate Butcher and Ambassador for Art
The whole idea for this unique art show, which is happening for the very first time this year, came from Dario Cecchini, Panzano in Chianti's famous 'Macellaio' (that's butcher!). Usually, Dario wows everyone with his amazing meat dishes at his three restaurants – Officina della Bistecca, Solociccia, and Dario Doc – but for Panzano Arte, he's championing some seriously high-class artistic delights.

Plus, here's a little insider tip from Nina for all you art and wine enthusiasts: Panzano in Chianti's yearly wine festival, Vino al Vino, is happening from September 12 to 15, 2019.
